I'd say that thing's instant. BtD will enter into his eye again. You mentioned in a previous ocassion a comparison between fighters should be better done in a 1 vs 1, and I think this may be the case. He may skip the explosion but all BtD has to do is wait once again till time skip hits its limit and explode once again.
Still, if defeating Kira is Diavolo's goal, I fail to see why he would engage with BtD at all. But is that just a visual effect or does it take time for BtD to get into his eye? If he doesn't think to use Epitaph, he's screwed. The only one who could defeat DIO was Jotaro, because he could stop time as well. I don't think a tiny- KQ would stay floating in the air, or that it'd be vulnerable, after all.
The larger problem is that BtD only reacts when someone learns Kira's identity from its host. BtD will enter into his eye again. As long as i can remember, Bites the Dust need host to be deployed and Hayato said it only could planted on non-stand user, and it activates the moment someone discover Kira identity. Killer Queen (キラークイーン, Kirā Kuīn) is the Stand of Yoshikage Kira, featured in JoJolion. Kira can't activate it manually and it doesn't respond to protect Kira at all. And obviously, Killer Queen can't stand up to King Crimson in direct combat. That wouldn't exactly help Diavolo find the user, but it would give him time to flee and track the user down. If he uses the time-skip as an opportunity to book it, BtD won't be able to enter his eye.

That's why Diavolo would absolutely have to use Epitaph in order to get the timing just right. So many power comparisons in this series enter in the same problem. What would happen if Kira activates the trigger during erased time? If Diavolo had no interest in learning Kira's identity and simply decided to kill anyone nearby who saw his face, Kira would either be completely screwed, or would have to undo BtD and use Killer Queen to protect himself. BtD is still bound to its host, so if Diavolo moves away from it in erased time there's no way it could catch up to him. I don't think the Stand itself can be damaged, and not even Star Platinum was fast enough to hit it before it reached his eye.
I imagine Diavolo could avoid BtD if he managed to erase time right when it tried to enter his eye, but he'd absolutely have to use Epitaph in order to know the exact moment.

I don't think a tiny Killer Queen would be floating in the air, but it definitely couldn't stay inside Diavolo's eye. I agree, the conditions are too tailored in favor of Kira in this scenario: Diavolo is looking for Kira yet he doesn't know him.
