I am not someone who writes off Lyme disease at all, nor do I write off the effects of climate,change on numerous disease vectors. I should be its target audience: I've got chronic Lymes and in massive amounts, took a long time to get diagnosed, often debilitated by it, and I've been fighting for decades about climate change. I expected more than a defensive book with lots,of insinuations about not getting enough “respect” from the powers that be. Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2018. My tired eyes were the only thing that forced me to put the book down but I finished reading it cover to cover in a couple days. I join the author in applauding the extraordinary efforts of researchers in this country to seek solutions without the stamp of approval from Center for Disease Control, National Institute of Health and the Infectious Disease Society of America, without which research funding doesn’t happen. Lyme disease is spreading rapidly around the globe as ticks move into places they could not survive before. . The first response from the medical establishment seems to be "it is all in your head" when they don't have the answer.

Mary Beth Pfeiffer captures and expresses in compassionate terms the human cost of this disease with its diverse impacts upon patients, families, healthcare providers and society. The situation is serious, as this book spells out, and the government and medicine need to focus more money and resources to stop the human toll taken by these serious pathogens.
