The views simply aren’t worth it, to be honest - drive 5 minutes up the road to Malahat Pass and they’re infinitely better. My only disappointment was that we never really got away from the sound of the traffic. Wear shoes with good traction/grip as there is a steep part involving climbing on smooth bedrock. At the time of writing, there are many trails on this Mount that are closed for environmental reasons so care is needed and, like us, you may find yourself walking further than anticipated. As “dangerous” it feels going back the same way, I wouldn’t recommed taking the other trail going towards finlayson arm road (Finalyson loop) especially if you’ve parked at the campsite. Use extreme caution, and be prepared for hazards or difficult sections on any trail. Not suitable for children. Baby salmon in the river. At this time in 1888 to lighthouse was not a lighthouse it was just a simple brass lens lantern on post. Even 3/4 way up the views are marvelous and we certainly felt a sense of achievement.Probably not an activity for anyone with a fear of heights or is unsteady with climbing - there were some parts where we were on all fours pulling ourselves up. It’s just not worth the walk. difficult scramble to the to of the Mount - it was very steep, rocky and uneven but we thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
