Hanging Rock National Park is only a short distance away but be prepared for a $10 entrance fee. A (not too hilly) mountain walk with a great mixture of native forest, formal gardens, expansive views, picnic grounds and history. Apart from being a lovely drive the view and park area created at the top of Mt Macedon is stunning. There are many wonderful shops, restaurants and galleries in Daylesford, After lunch we head to Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm (if open, as they only open on selected days), where you will find all different varieties of lavender products.

The huge memorial cross stands majestically at the end of an easily managed walk and bordered by rhododendrons. Take your time and soak up the beauty of the forest as you walk through it. You can take a picnic or have a nice lunch at the cafe.
Views of the surrounding landscape are mostly obscured by surrounding trees now, but still impressive. It may also be wetter and/or windier. Mount Macedon is simply stunning.

The turnoff for the carpark at the start of the walk is on the right-hand side of Cameron Drive on the way up to the Memorial Cross. Don't forget to put your car window down as the smell of the trees will instantly invigorate you.

We could see Melbourne city, and that's pretty amazing! Once you turn off the freeway and start the drive to Mount Macedon it is a really delightful trip with tranquil country side. I must say that I probably didn't spend a huge amount of time here because when I hiked from the railway station up to the top of Mount Macedon, it was only the last part of my trek where I actually entered the park.
