baldur's gate best class first playthrough
It starts at level 1 in a ruleset that can be very punishing in the early game and even though it gives a lot of the early game enemies penalties, they can still get in a lucky hit that can take out one of your party. The fighter levels give more HP and the ability to truly specialize in a weapon along with an even better THACO. To make some of the fights more comical.
Woe was me. You'll have a party of 6 character, so no matter your class you'll be able to get the 4 ones important for every party: Fighter (can be replaced by Ranger or Paladin), Mage (Specialists too, but not all of them are worthwhile), Cleric and Thief. Explore, BG is open-ended and you can't find fun stuff. If you want more freedom when picking your party members, you should probably one of these four for your character.
Well...I definitely wouldn't recommend it. (or save before/after every engagement so that if you run into something too big for you you can just reload without too much lost time). I just got the game Baldur's Gate and I'm wanting to get on with it right away, but I'm really unsure as to which class my main character should be. If you are concerned about long term power (and don't mind dealing with a dozen or more frustrating hours where you're playing as a weak and pathetic PC) any multiclass that includes a mage can be extremely potent. As far as that part of the OP goes, you don't need to worry about that. THAC0 is wacko so go with story mode if you don't wanna bother with the combat. VERY IMPORTANT!! Plus wizards can only cast each spell once a day; obviously you acquire more spells eventually, but those first few hours will stall a bit. The lower your armor class and THAC0 the better (I think some weapons may say something like "+2 to THAC0", this is fine as that would actually take your THAC0 down by 2), it's weird but you'll get used to it. As for a general tip: Don't give up. Make sure you're registered to vote and know all your options to vote safely! Save scum, even if you are not a usual save scummer. Paladin was my favorite. Also, they are tanky, can wield big two handers and are the perfect party face. I own Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition on GOG. Buy it on eBay! Dexterity is useful for spell touch attacks.
Couple that with having a decent base THACO and having access to lots of buffs, it's a powerful class. Clerics have better spells and a pure fighter if far and away the better fighter.
