I like the human noble, and both dwarf origins. Especially considering you have a full party to run around with. Taunting warrior on your team let's you get away with more damage. While Carver has more issues to overcome and a more obvious character arc, Bethany has a nice, if more understated, arc in terms of deciding her place in the world, and has a different personality/result depending on whether she ends up in the Circle or as a Grey Warden. Mage is the most fun, but also the hardest to play as.

Play human warrior is the simplest and least Imaganative of them all so is just what a new player needs. I am assuming we cannot transfer equipment as then the game would have to up the bar, considering Dragon Age: Origins has some pretty powerful equipment for the higher lvls and would render DA2's mostly useless.
