is dragon age 2 good

I appreciate the arguments the OP makes.

Of the games I played this year Dragon Age II is the most disappointing by far. It made the characters have more life by having them do other things without you. The tension and unresolved emotions between Hawke and his younger brother, Carver, is truly worthy of praise. I played through the game 5 times.

If you don't micromanage every little aspect of a fight, you won't get past the tutorial - and it's been immensely satisfying to beat the game this way. Since I came out saying the characters were better and some others, e.g. But I think that’s enough for now, as this post is getting too long. When you say, "reasons that DA2 sucks," it seems (at least to me) that you're claiming that this is the only way that anyone is allowed to think. Classes as in Rouge, Warrior, and Mage. Nobody seems to. which is their call. The Templars are a limited group of people who crave control over a large amount of people. Two years ago I would have laughed at that prospect. Bottom line: Dragon Age 2 is definitely worth a go if you are a fan of the Dragon Age universe.

Yes, I said it. The strategic aspect of the combat was stronger in the first game. Is it too weird an adult likes to play Mario Kart in free time? It's a shame really, because I really like that world. If, I'm wrong, I apologise, but dealing with people trolling about other games has given me this impression about titles like that. Dragon Age II is by no means a bad game, plays alright for the most part, some fun characters, and a mediocre plot. The satisfaction gained from finally winning a really tough fight through mixing it up with character builds and planning out movement and attacks was AWESOME. Furthermore, despite whatever choice you pick at the end, the outcome is exactly the same. In the context of DAII, this means providing me with a reason to stay in Kirkwall, rather than just packing up and going back to Ferelden. THREE rocks would have covered the door frame 100%, but they only put enough rocks there to physically block access to the room you could still see.

It may not be as great as the first in terms of story but all in all its a great game. Crimpycracker (talk) 06:06, April 10, 2011 (UTC). It was button mashy, it was catered to lazy console players and I want no part of it. - Kerethos (talk) 05:48, April 10, 2011 (UTC), It was nice to have the protagonist have a family instead of being an orphan like nearly every other game in existence. And the main character they forced on you was annoying, having the freedom of choice in creating your own character with a different race each with a different origin in the first game really made "hawk" feel like a step backwards. Personally I thought all the main characters were well thought out and well presented. 1%? Not that that's bad, it's actually a very good design choice that really benefits the flow of dialogue. That said, the heavy recycling of the eversame assets was a huge bummer, and the writing fell apart towards the end. Not family; other than dear old mom and an uncle I don't care about, my family is dead (sister joined the Grey Wardens in my playthrough). In other words, where DA:O allows more player freedom because the character's history is vague, distant and hardly ever confronts the player in whatever is going on at the time, DAII anchors the player in a particular historical narrative that is rendered present by the very fact that that history is embedded and embodied by particular characters that come along with the player on his or her journey. This aspect is also carried forward by the limiting of the player-agency. Still, it's there, and it's hella good. So that leaves graphics and the visceral nature of combat: button => awesome! And for a game that takes place Kirkwall over the course of ten years, the city doesn't change. I bought fallout 3 and liked it enough to buy the first two and love that series as well. Seriously Bioware, I can see the door frame behind that boulder.

Right away, sir!") I thought it was a cheap way to have you have to fight them both and not feel bad about turning on either of them, or something. Reused areas you say? Fuck that guy. The combat felt sloppy they tried to move it closer to action and it did nothing but make it look and feel awkward.

I've lost any sense of agency, and therefore any sense of immersion in the world. Now I'm almost 50/50. But rather treat it as a separate game to Origins than a true sequel.

ChomskyDisciple (talk) 18:35, April 10, 2011 (UTC), TTTT, only thing that really bugged me was the "Bride of Frankenstein" thing. It's just fun to pull off spells that make you feel truly powerful, while still having to think strategically in tough fights. The animations and flow are greatly improved. EA have done this a million times.

I've got to say, the original poster could have been reading my mind. Yes I'd rather want to kill myself while fighting a bandit, thank you. I felt more immersed in the story. Dragone Age without the things I mentioned above, is just another action RPG. I do not think there is anything on the mage's side that was worse than the templars "raping" the tranquils. Which leads to the other issue, the size of the worlds. Sorry ;__; I seriously didn't know it was an old topic!

Nobody is forcing you to play it. - ProtoSaura, I have to disagree on a few of these points, and would add several more but it's a good list otherwise. Whereas it is common for RPGs to let the player initiate most events and make the player responsible for the formation of the opinions held by most NPCs, here, in DAII, you sometimes feel at the mercy of those you thought you could "trust". I had to do something to distract myself because my dad died a month (to the day) before the games release. And I have to say, I love this game. Actually, it does matter. Aside from the main characters the rest of the lesser NPC do fall a little flat. But rather treat it as a separate game to Origins than a true sequel.
The new system rewards exploration and doing quests, rather then finding the merchant with infinite resources at a low price. It's nowhere near as good as the first one, but then again when Bioware half-asses things it's better than what most developers put out there. And I really didn't realize I didn't like the game much until another month after beating it. Wtf? If you're interested, you can read it here. As others here have mentioned, I did not play as a mage, so your entire first point doesn't apply to me.

DAII takes dialogue a step further by including a ton of random dialogue that occurs between party members. At the end of Act 2. Personally I found the story fascinating and fresh. Let's have a look. I'm glad you got something out of your purchase of the game, but I regretted every dollar I spent. That kind of combat is one of my favourite things. I mean at least we get to know how Merrill does sort of the same thing. I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they purported this as a sequel to origins, it took all the good and threw it out the window. Im not saying we should all make forums with titles like "Why DA 2 was the BEST game EVER!!!! The combat system was not an improvement on Origins. I enjoyed the character interaction better in DA2, I enjoyed a tighter, smaller, less grand-epic story that DA2 offered. Don't make excuses, the Templar/Mage in DAII conflict could've been written just as well and we all know it. Tommyspa (talk) 03:14, April 10, 2011 (UTC), How could you forget about the bugs? --Slowrider7 (talk) 13:07, April 10, 2011 (UTC). Stick with the topic people. The combat in DAII was ass. What is it this time? Below even MMO level fetch quests. Rather, there's a lot in the game that either failed to live up to its own promise, or just comes across as plain lazy. A lot of people liked this game and I'm happy for you, but many more did not like it, or were ambivalent towards it. The people who are content living under a controlling government, because you are scared of what happens if you take the safety off. And the OP has every right to express his opinion, but to shoot down a game for things like companion armor and recycled areas is just idiotic. There are 3 class options, and 2 options about whether to take Carver with you in Act 1, so that should be 6 valid options, and you are saying that the story is excellent, even though you admit only one of those 6 paths is so. Also, I feel the artistic style is far more pronounced and memorable than DA:O's generic fantasy style; It's really a step up for the series and I hope they'll retain it for DAIII.
