Went on a bit of a Good Old Games bender. I enjoyed all three games equally. While I knew that some of the greatest RPGs ever made were coming to consoles, it somehow escaped my notice that they were coming out today. The unofficial reddit home of all things Baldur's Gate and the Infinity Engine! Overall, it's way better than the other two. Although it is not neccesary to play BG 1 before BG 2 I would recommend that you do so. Play it if you like reading. You don't necessarily need to play Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate to enjoy the sequels, but BG will provide a lot of background knowledge and is pretty great on its own, and I personally prefer Icewind Dale to Icewind Dale 2. Valuewise I think Baldur's Gate 2 is the overall best of the three because you will sink a ridiculous amount of time into it enjoying some great content. While one could argue the merits of thrusting stuff like class kits into something that is essentially meant to represent the archetypical D&D experience, being able to put Max HP on level up and opening it up to easier modding opportunities should not be understated.
My personal favorite of the Infinity games is the first Baldur's Gate, which you should definitely play before you play the sequel (you can download mods that add the new features introduced in BG2 into BG1). Try adjusting the terms of your search, you can search by game titles, publishers, and developers.

I would go for Planescape Torment , but I like the others as well Planescape just brought something different to the table for me and I found it very enjoyable. I have a 10$ gift card and can only buy one, I'm playing Baldurs Gate 1-2 right now but am interested in more, I want to know what I'm in for and what the main differences are, Any advise or bit of information is greatly appreciated, iwd: 90% fightv, 10% story pst: 10% fight, 90% talk. Alot of people will disagree with me putting Icewind Dale ahead of Fallout but I just happened to enjoy it more. I'd say go for Planescape.

Especially since the story and characters carry over. Its certainly one of the best, if not the best RPG period when it comes to story telling and characters. There's not so much to the story of the first game that you couldn't catch up on through playing the sequel and checking some outside sources, though (depending on how deep you want to dive into the Forgotten Realms lore).

GOG.com is a digital distribution platform – an online store with a curated selection of games, an optional gaming client giving you freedom of choice, and a vivid community of gamers. The off-beat humor, story and gameplay give it the slight edge. Baldur's Gate 2 is head-and-shoulders above the rest, in my opinion, so I'd recommend to start there. Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand (Jan's View). The fights are hard as nails though (which is fun). If a lot of reading is going to bother you this game might not be up your alley. Wisdom and Intelligence....didn't find that out until Act 3...anyway.

Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment bundle includes two very different games, and more variety in gameplay than BG bundle. If you STILL can't get enough, only then go on to Icewind Dale II. Knowledge of Baldur's Gate 1 will add a lot to the experience (especially so if you intend to finish the expansion pack and thus the series). Unlike Baldur's Gate however Icewind Dale does not have joinable NPC's that you can run into (someone like Imoen for instance).

Baldur's Gate 1, coincidentally, is also very good and a much easier game to complete. Baldur's Gate 2 is the middle ground between the other two extremes. I've only bought Planescape Torment recently from GOG, but that is a hard beast to get in to. I played Icewind Dale I, and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. i only wish game stories were half as good as Planescape Torment's. You can't invite this user because you have blocked him. Games like Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale, still pull on those nostalgia heartstrings 20 years later, and they're making another comeback. Baldur's Gate next. If you go with Planescape, you are pretty much just good with a fixpack and a widescreen patch. Icewind dale from what I know is mostly combat and I can't see any bioware d and d title combat being fun from a diablo real time action rpg perspective.

For some reason, Icewind Dale never hooked me, even if I finnished them. Planescape is all about tell an interesting story.

However, I've never played any computer RPGs before, so I have no idea where to start. Also the loot tends to be stranger than in Baldur's Gate. All I know is that it took place long after ID1 and that you make a new group of heroes. Played BG2. Torment is purely about the story, and Icewind Dale is purely about the combat.

Baldur's Gate 2 is really balanced as a game and has a very epic feeling story . There's some pretty sweet deals on that website.

IWD definately a CRPG and still very good IMHO, Planescape = amazing flavour and backstory, hope you like reading and talking, BG1/2 Epic on every level and THE BEST party duo ever. Consider playing it as an extended tutorial. Planescape: Torment's appeal is NOT combat. Highly recommend playing Baldur's Gate 1, that is still a damn fine game. Start of by saying that I can't comment on Baldur's Gate since I haven´t ever finished them. You really can't go wrong with any of them, but story wise, Planescape has the best story. I used to recommend playing the Infinity Engine games in the order they were released, but with the Enhanced Edition of Baldur's Gate coming up, it might make sense to start with either Icewind Dale or Planescape: Torment. IWD.

Personally, it goes BG2/IWD2 -> PS:T only because IWD gets you used to the mechanics, then BG2 presents an epic storyline still ingratiated with tons of awesome combat and mechanics, and then PS:T is good for the campaign setting with middling to bad combat. IWD is a very enjoyable dungeon crawl, but it is also a typical heroic fantasy, and the story is very linear.

All three are solid games.

Also I don’t like having a 100% custom party, I like having fixed henchmen that you recruit. Icewind Dale 1/2 = The Hobbit, Baldurs Gate 1/2 = LoTR, Planescape = The Silmarillion. Icewind Dale 1 and 2 are on my computer from GoG but I havn't touched them yet. Planscape is more advanced in many ways. Last year, for the first time.

I myself love it BUT it isn't for everyone. I love books though, so I'm having a balst, and I am surprised at how much reading everyone's dialogue actually affects the content of the game (hearing someone's story about one thing can open up dialogue options somewhere else). It's very heavy on text and takes place in a very atypical setting, however, so it's not for everyone. Some of PST's GUI buttons are really small. I know all of these games are incredibly deep and complex, so for a newbie like me, which of these would be the easiest and most fun to get into? Literally the prime example of a flawed masterpiece. I bought Icewind dale because I like Baldurs Gate, and I was disappointed.

Can I choose all of them? Coming into any of them might be harsh given the age of the underlying systems, though. IWD is an RPG. Both are great, but very different imo. Cleric buffs and/or Emotion:X buffs make even Mages into viable fighters, and from what I've seen they all stack. Couldn't play 2. By the end of the game you will feel like a badass and have seen a lot of interesting things and will feel like you've been on a journey.

Alright, guys, you've convinced me. Something for both Torment and Icewind fans. All of this born from a deeply rooted love for games, utmost care about customers, and a belief that you should own the things you buy. It's not a game where you can discover everything on your first playthrough. If I recall correctly, for some completely inane reason, there's no hardware rendering option in IWD2, even though there's one in the first game! It fixes the majority of the issues in the first game and also makes it a tiny bit easier at the start. Baldur's Gate II.

The fights aren’t as strategically interesting as baldurs Gate, but use the same system more or less. Planescape: Torment is one of the best CRPG of all time IMO. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all). At first I didn't care for it compared to the others but once I started to think of it as a tactical combat game I found myself enjoying it. Press J to jump to the feed.
