Pasted as rich text. The 57 is a classic as if I were a rep for such a company, but notjoke it is, to compare the two I would say that they are eqaul, in the since that the 57 does in the lower mids what the JB does in the ^... LoL Nobody gives a {censored} about the guitar it will be in.

There a bit brighter than the 57's, You have it backwards, the Custom is ceramic and the Custom Custom is A2. but, really, you can't go wrong either way, they both sound amazing. A Custom 5 is a Custom with an ALNICO 5 instead of a 2. Yeah I was only 50% sure I had that right!
I was gassing for a Wolfetone Marshallhead to throw in the bridge, but that gas is GONE. I eventually took the '57's out of my guitars, because the JB is pretty close sonically, but you're not just stuck with the stock series wiring. Your previous content has been restored. i would recommend those. It ended up sounding too fizzy with gain.

It's halfway between the Custom and th Custom Custom (which is ceramic). Gibson 57's are my favorite pickups ever. I like both the Classic '57 and JB. Both can get fairly muddy in something like a Les Paul, but I like the JB more because it has four conductor wiring.....if you want to wire the '57 up for things like parallel/ series, you have to add wires to it and have to know what you're doing. if you're looking for alot of high gain sounds, etc, i'd say the 59's are better at that though. Gibson 57's are my favorite pickups ever. Just thick, thick, thick, warm, warm, warm, balls, balls, balls. It could be a 5 billion for all I know! As with all of our P.A.F.-style pickups, the ’59 vintage output humbucker is wound on Seymour’s classic Leesona 102 pickup winding machine from the old Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, MI. I've never played on the SD's, but the '57s are my FAVORITE pups EVAR. In my experience with both which is considerable, since the 57 hit the streets, I will offer up this opinion, a JB will take any stock pick-up, in considerable range of depth and tonality, to a WHOLE NAVA LEVA, and by this description I mean it has incredible high, so softly biting the, ars of you and yours, mid are in the higher register, yet as I just described the high not to worry. The Custom 5 is like a '59 isn't it, only hotter? If you opt for a four-conductor version for coil splitting, the ’59’s single coil mode is crystal clear.
