It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness. This gives the book an unpleasant feel overall, even when the odd sympathetic character pops up. This novel is long, and it does get dry at some times, but some of the stories are remotely interesting. In Baxter's defense however, the story is told in little vignettes spanning 5 million years. Another one of Baxter's Xeelee sequence, Endurance is a collection of 11 long stories, spanning through millions of years.
